I currently have a a 20 gallon Long tank, that has been through the nitrogen cycle (Fishless). It currently has 2 filters, a 20 and a 50gl Aquaclears. It is heated, which stays about 76ºF. I wouldnt say heavily planted, but it does contain 4 Large Java Ferns, 7 small java ferns (offshoots from the orginals), 2 medium sized anubias Nanas, and a small batch of Java moss. I use a mix of real and fake plants to provide cover. There is a piece of drift wood (4 of the small java ferns are shoved in the nooks and crannies). My tank currently holds 5 Julii Cories, 6 Guppies, and 7 cardnial tetras. The Tetras are new. I took my time, nearly an hour to hour and half acclimating them. And So far they are looking fine, eating, but hiding. I think its becasue they are still skittish. I only got them about 3-4 days ago. I have only lost two since the first day, and have had them replaced by the fish store. I know they like acidic water, but i heard if you are careful you can adapt them to more alkaline. I have also read that Peat Moss might help lower your ph? Is this correct? How would you go about entering it, a little at a time, or all in? I understand it goes in the filter. Im not really in for a Blackwater tank, though it has a very very light tea color. Some days you dont see it. Yes there is carbon in it. But ultimately I just want to make their lives better. Do you think the guppies and cories would be alright? Or should I leave things as is? BTW, my plants suck up all my nitrates. The tanks been up for 7 months, and i never get a reading over 10ppm, sometimes its even 0, am i correct in thinking this is becasue of the plants?
