Okay, nobody in my household eats peas so we never buy them, or those mixed packs of vegetables. The only way I ever get peas is in soup. I was wondering if they would be safe to feed to my fish if I washed them off and crushed them up a little bit.

Mmmmmmm tricky one, i suppose you might have to think about what other ingredients are in the soup, would it be harmful?????????????

do you eat any veggies at all?

do you eat any veggies at all?
Corn, tomatoes, beans... mostly all in the summer from our garden. :)

There's probably some salt in the soup... :/

LOL! I hate my neighbors, they have a rooster and a dog that wakes me up at 4am every morning!

Couldn't u just buy a bag of frozen peas, and defrost one occasionally for the fishie's dinner?

While it is unlikely that an isolated pea from soup once in a great while would do much harm, maybe even no harm at all. I just wouldn't risk it, ya know, salt and preservatives and the juices from all the other ingredients... just seems like it would be more messy than anything. However, if you guys have your own garden, peas aren't sacrosanct, fish will eat a lot of different vegetables and fruits. Fish have very acute chemical receptors, and are incredibly unlikely to eat something natural that would be poisonous to them. Note I carefully chose the adjective natural, since the preservatives and other ingredients in soup could confuse the chemical receptors, whereas your homegrown vegetables are going to be far more natural. I'll tell you what I do with my fish: I slice off a little piece of whatever fruit or vegetable I bring home from the supermarket, wash it off, and put it in the tank, usually weighted down. I give the fish a day or so to try it. If they like it, then I leave it in until it gets messy, if they don't like it, they don't get it again. I have a big list of fruits and veggies my fish do and don't like: My fish (tiger barbs, blue gourami, cory catfish, sergeant major loaches, lemon tetras, mollies) like peas, cucumber, broccoli, oranges, lettuce, spinach, Swiss chard and they don't like pears, apples or yellow squash. That's all I can remember off the top of my head. I'd say just try like the tomatoes and corn and anything else you grow. The worst the fish can do is ignore it. Just remember to check on the fruit or veggie to make sure it isn't fouling the tank.

Thanks, that's great advice! I'll see what I can get this summer. :good:

How about asking your mum to save some peas on a plate before she puts them in the soup when she is about to cook it??
