Hi there,

I'm new to the board and relativly new to fish keeping in a large aquarium. I have had a 240L tank setup a while now but last night added more fish. I added 2 Pearl Gourami and some mollies. In the tank are 2 more Gold Gourami and some Platys.

However, last night after about 5 hours one of my Pearl Gourami was lying on the bed of the tank almost lifeless. He has now passed. Now thismorning the other Pearl Gourami is lying on the bed of the tank flapping around sometimes upside down and lying on its side.

Can anyone help me? Is this common with Pearl because my water levels are fine and all the other fish are great. I'm not sure wether it was something wrong with the stores Pearl Gourami tank or if it's something wrong here!

1 Pearl Gourami is on the blink still on the bottom!

P.S. I just put him in the top of the tank in a Breeding catch so that the other fish stop bothering him.

it sounds bacterial to ph shock.
How long did you climatise the new fish for.
Does the fish look bloated or thin.
Does the fish look pale or darker in colour.

How many fish and which type.
What test kit are you using.

Can you issolate and use a bacterial med.
Once fish lay on there backs they rarely make it.

Thanks for your reply!
I am using an Aqua one PH test kit. I do it every few days and it's fine and I adjust it slighty accordingly.
The next fish had probably half an hour in the bag, then I would add some tank water... leave them for 10 and repeat before releasing them.
The 2 Gourami I lost were also introduced with 4 Mollies, which all are fine. So are the other Gourami in my tank which were already there.
I have now after losing the 2 new Pearl Gourami: 4 Mollies, 2 Platys, 2 Gold Gourami and 3 Skeleton Catfish.

You're right about lying on their backs, they didn't make it. Kinda sad I hate losing fish!

Do you use ph adjusters.

Bless them. R.I.P.

It sounded like the fish were already ill bless them.

Just do some daily water changes of your main tank.

I agree it's awful to see fish on there backs.

Yeah I'm beginning to think the Pearl's had something wrong with them before I brought them home considering I have never had any trouble and it's just those 2 fish that came from the same tank at the pet store.

How are the other fish doing.
Do you use ph adjusters to adjust your ph.

Hey Wilder, just a really late follow up...

All my other fish are 100%.

I went to the same pet store late last week and the 2 Pearl Gourami tanks where I got mine where boarded off with a piece of paper over them saying "NOT FOR SALE".
So I'm guessing they were sick before they left the store seeing as they're not selling any more of those fish at the momenet.

Must be a disease in their tank or something.

Thank god it wasn't my fault, still sad though!

did you even see your Gold gouramis Bother the new ones? I know gouramis can get aggressive to eachother much like bettas. Sounds like the new ones got bullied to death. They were stressed from the move to a new tank then got bothered by the new fish and that stressed them out and caused them to get ill and die. Fish can be sneaking they could have been beating up the other fish when you were not looking.

I had a gourami get killed by stress from another fish bothering it. Simular thing happen he would just lay on the bottom.

Thanks for the update.
Did you get your money back.

No they weren't bullied. All the fish from the same tank at the store I got them were ill and moving the 2 to my tank would have just topped them off.
The water was being treated 2 days later at PetStock.
