Pearl Danio - Distended Abdomen

I have 5 perarl danios and one of them (adult) has a distended abdomen about 1-2 mm, this has been there for a couple of weeks now. There isnt any "pine cone" scales to speak of. The fish is also hiding quite alot but still swims occasionally. without issue.

I havent fed them tonight to see if it helps by this time tomorrow. I have also bought some Interpet number 9 which I am thinking of using, but I dont want to put it in unless I have to.

There is a chance that the fish just ate too many dried blood worms. Is there a way of helping him digest/poo the food, I read somewhere about epsom salts, can these be used and will they help ?

Any comments on the fish or medication is very much appreciated.

Thanks,
Dave

Shelled peas and daphnia very good for digesting a fish food daphnia.
Yes to many bloodworms are bad for fish they make them bloat up.
Epson salt bath helps draw the fluids out of the fish.
Need a good variety. of frozen foods and veg in a fish diet.

Thanks for your help on this, its very much appreciated. Two questions -

How do you feed with peas, do I mush them up and how many will 5 adult pearl danios eat ?

Should I try the peas before the salt ?

Thanks again.

If you have espon salt do a bath it will help the fish.
Cook some peas in boiling water for a few minutes, let cool down, pop out of shell, mush between fingers and add to the tank.
Say 4 peas mushed up.

Thanks for the advice on the peas ...

When you say "do a bath", is it ok just to add the salt to the tank (if so, how much do I add for a 120 ltr tank) ? Do I need to remove any of the filters (carbon ?) and when should I do a water change afterwards and how much ? Also, just to clarify is it espon, epson or epsom salts ?

Sorry for all the questions but I just want to get it right )

Thank again.

Epson salt can get it from a chemist same as we use.
What fish do you keep as some fish cannot tolerate salt to well.

I have a 120 ltr tank with 5 adult pearl danios and 2 chinese algae eaters (big fellas :good: ).

Will they be ok ?

You will have to do a bath can't add salt with the chinese algae eaters as they are scaless fish get you some info them, as they are aggressive.

Once the algae eaters had sorted out their territories they seem to be ok. They have a log each at either end of the tank, so they dont really see each other.

OK, how do I do a bath ?

Thanks for taking the time to help here.

They dont like the peas, they dont even go near them. I have now done an epsom salt bath for 15 minutes (because the fish started jumping a little, so I put him back). I used 1 table spoon of salt in 5 litres and he darted around a bit at fisrt but calmed down for 12 minutes or so. This was done 2 days ago and the belly on the fish still isnt getting smaller. I was wondering if it sometimes requires 2 or more 'baths' and if I should be leaving him in for longer. Any advice is much appreciated.

Thanks.
