I looked into this recently - the absolute minimum is 20g LONG, which is a 2.5ft tank. Even this, is on the small side, so you should only consider one of the smaller ones such as Aulonocara Baenschi. But you should really plan for at least 3ft tank if you can.

Jacobs are especially known to be aggressive (for peacocks that is).

my lfs, and even my walmart sells Aulonocara Baenschi. the tank is 20 long. but i think its 3 feet, it looks like that anyways

20L is a 2.5fter, otherwise you are going to end up with a tank that is less than 1ft high or less than 1ft deep... Very odd proportion...

As I mentioned, peacock breeders have been suggesting this tank as a minimum for small peacocks so it should be feasible, but I really want to get a 3fter for this purpose...

i already have the tan, and its all cycled, i ran my old filter in it, and all the plants etc.

when we got the sand from her lastnigh, she said we needed like 25 lbs of sand or more, and the sand is like 4 or 5 inches high!

we were going to do tang, but the store has some, then they dont and say they do, so its like never any there. its a pain, lol. but they will be getting some julies soon, but i dont want to pay $12 each

So, at the end, what are you planning to put in that tank? I'm still not clear...

5 inches of sand is probably too much unless if all you are planning are shellies. Even 2 inches, I was nervous in my mbuna tank and I still use chopstick every month or so to steer them up!

im not sure either. some kind of africans. i did want to do shellies but the store doesnt cary any at all.

Why don't you PM Ron?

I think he is still selling multies.

In that case, personally, I think 5 inches of sand is definitely too much! On the other hand, mbuna and many other african species like to decorate their own landscape out of sand, so it could be interesting what they could do with that much sand...

the store said that they wouldnt like the sand and used crush coral instead, because thats what they had in the lakes, lol, or something like that with rocks.

cometcattle, i think he still is, but my mom wont let me buy anything over the internet. maybe if it was from a web site and i didnt need a charge card, but im not sure.

lol

The store said crushed coral was a natural elemnt of the lake

I'm not a big crushed coral fan. I'm a sand guy. I personally have begun using a mixture of sand and aragonite (about a 70/30 mixture) with great results.

i think they werre a bit confussed because the guy was new, and had to keep calling his wife over, and she was with costomers, and there were so many people there.

but they did mention aragonite.
