My LFS has several nice peacocks, are these fish agressive as I have found conflicting info on the web?

Compared to a guppy yes they are, compared to mbuna - no they're not. In a big enough tank they should live in harmoney.

As Ashy said, compared to most "standard" community fish they are aggressive, however they are by no means on the far end of the aggression scale. If kept in a 4ft or longer tank they are quite colorful (well the males are) harmonious tankmates.

depends on what your defeinition of aggressive is. Peacocks ususlly dont go around looking for a fight but they usually are capable of fighting off other fish that arent too overly aggressive. It also depends on the species.

I have a larger than normal firefish female and she is a pit bull and goes after any fish in sight. Just to show you they can sometimes be firecrackers.
