ive been looking around to see about purchasing more peacocks for my tank and ive noticed that the price range is very large, from $5 some places to $75 in others. why is there such a difference? is it quality, size, rarity, wild caught, or tank raised? or is it just some places want to charge more than others?

thanks
james

were im from, peacocks usually go for the same price as mbuna, sold on size, anything between £7 - £35

EDIT - think thats roughly $14 - $70

Also, be aware, many peacocks you see in the LFS are actually man-made.

man-made ? do you mean some are hybrids ?

Sorry should have clarified that. Yes, several peacock "species" have been developed through hybridization and will never be seen in nature.

OB peacocks are one example http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/ob_peacock.php

Many Albino peacocks are also hybrids http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/albino_peacocks.php

I definately suggest reading the article Mixing Peacocks from the link I originally posted. :good:
