I've been thinking for sometime now that I should add something to my planted community. While I admit that because of the layout it can look "empty" from time to time. The main reason for wanting a new addition is because I have managed to keep my nitrates at 0ppm (weekly check) for over a year now.

My aquarium is a Vision 180L Stock: trio of Ap Trifasciata, Honey Gourami pair & 7 Lemon 8 Rummynose Tetra, 17 freshwater Shrimp (bee and cherry.)

So what would you guys suggest? I'm not looking at cory cats because I have the wrong type of substrate for them, or livebeaers. I am interested in barbs but don't like man made breeds like cherry/gold barbs. Other than that, I'm looking for something that could compliment the setup as opposed to dominate it...

You wouldn't regret upping your Rummy's shoal by another 10 at least. They look fantastic in a larger group, especially in a planted tank.

What about some Hatchetfish?

James.

How about some dwarf neon Rainbow fish, I just picked up some today and they are great! :) Since your tank is well established they will love it and I also have mine with rummynoses and they school together from time to time even

I would say get atleast 6+
  • 5 rainbowfish - Do not mix sexes
  • 6 rainbowfish - 3 males + 3 females
  • 7 rainbowfish - 3 males + 4 females
  • 8 rainbowfish - 3 males + 5 females
  • 9 rainbowfish - 4 males + 5 females
  • 10 rainbowfish - 5 males + 5 females

Thanks guys. Some really good suggestions so far. I have looked at both and they are on my shortlist :good: I came across a white rainbow fish and haven't been able to locate it using google since.I think it's called "woswarre" raibowfish but again, the spelling comes up with nothing, not even a suggestion.

Also what is the most peaceful barb that isn't man made, thanks.

Cherry barbs aren't man made, and the gold id a naturally occurring colour morph, as far as I'm aware.

How about five banded barbs? Similar to tigers in looks, but peaceful.

My apologies, I just checked and it seems you're right about the cherry barb. Five banded barb would make a great addition though I've got to do some research to see whether or not they'd make a meal out of my bee and cherry shrimp.
