I have all these particles in my water and do not know what is causing them. The only thing that it could be would be my clown loaches stirring up the substrate with their tail when they swim fast but I hardly ever see them doing this. Has anyone had this problem. I might move my filter intake more out of the plants and try cleaning out the hoses. Any advice would be helpful.

I had a similar problem and spent a productive but boring 20-30mins swooping a net around in the tank This picked up most of the crap. some of it was little pieces of plant and things

Goodluck

I'd do a big siphoning of your gravel. It sounds like you haven't cleaned it in a while.

I agree with Chibi, do a big water change and pay particular attention to removing any dead and rotting leaves around the base of your plants. I had the same problem with tiny white particles in the water (new tank syndrome I believe) which gave a milky appearance to the tank. I tried some B-CLEAR recommended by my LFS but I forgot to take out the carbon filters and thus it didnt work....!!! Hey ho I continued with twice weekly 25% water changes and paid particular attention to making sure the bottom of the tank was as clean as I could. Net any floating plant debris. I also reduced my flake feeding to half for a week thinking I may have been a bit too generous - all of the above measures helped greatly and although not 100% clear im happy with what I now have. Im back to 1 water change per week and fingers crossed this will hold the buildup.

Hope this helps.
