I have an old but sound glass 15.6 US/13 Imp gal tank and I wondered if I could glass partition it into say six planted and rocked sections and keep an anabantoid ( say Bettas and Gouramis) in each section. Or would the sight of unreachable opposition be a stress on the fish? Grateful for any advice on the idea...Gyillmard

Yes and no. You could do 5 separate sections for male bettas but I have never heard of this format being used for gourami, they are bigger than a betta and would not really advocate the gourami idea. But 3 gallons per male betta would be good and work fine and yes they would flare a bit to start with but then get used to it quickly, just make sure their individual areas are well planted.

Yeah, You could do bettas in something like taht. Personally, I'd get those perforated plastic clip in dividers and hook up a sponge filter or something for some biological filtration. Would make maintenance alot easier. :)
