Hi everyone
I have a question and was wondering if anyone can help.
Iv seen some parrot fish in my LFS and I think im in love especially with the Pinks ones.
Cant anyone tell me.What type of fish are they ok to be kept with?
Also can anyone one recoomend any good sites about them?
Thank you very much
Vicky

When you say 'pink' do you mean bright, hot pink? These fish are artificialy dyed. It is a very painful, inhumane process and it weakens the fish considerably. The color also fades slowly. Next you should realise that these are hybrid fish (check the hybrids section for more info) and they do get rather large. They tend to be shy if not kept with some kind of dither fish (non-nippy active barbs such as golden barbs work well) but grow rather large and need a big tank if you want to keep several and have tank-mates with it as well. Unfortunately, I don't know of any sites about them. Most opinions concerning their breeding is negative as it's generaly accepted that hybridizing fish is not a resposible practice - not to mention the inhumanely dyed parrots and those bred without tails. I would ask in the hybrids section for more accurate info. I myself have never kept them and don't realy know that much about them.

Its not a bright pink .Its alittle hard to explain its sort of a pinky orangey colour.Iv seen some on the other board and they look simliar to them.
Il also ask around on there aswell
thanks you

this a re the few websites about the parrot fish I've found:
http://www.parrotcichlid.com
http://www.parrotcichlid.com/gallery/
http://boeing_dude.tripod.com/id130.htm (just one page)

if anyone knows of more, please post them as I havent found much info on them either, I'm guessing since many people hate the idea of hybrids made by humans

I like them anyway :)

btw: I would like to share that a friend of my mom gave us one of these fish so we didn't knew a thing about it, unfortunatelly it died accidentally after cleaning a tank, if I'd knew that they were not so common to get I would have taken care of nothing bad happening, it was so cute, although we only had him for like 2 weeks -_- I actually miss looking at it.

Wow, I didn't know that it was a man-made fish, and the amount of problems that the poor fish has because of this. It's such a shame because imo they are really pretty. That third link was really informative.
That's my learning done for the day. :flex:
