can any one give me any info about parrot fish i have 2 and the wife thinks there haveing ago at our other fish we lost a pleco this morning are thay like this

just to keep you updated i have took the parrots back to the shop and changed them as for some of the coments i think some of the members on hear need to think befor thay speek so what if i wanted some thing with a bit of clouer sorry for my spelling or you going to have a go at me about that to

at lest i can say i have the right size thank for my fish and do not keep them in a tank that is way to small for them may be you need to stick to gold fish

you got shot down for wanting something pink and blue in your tank, you got them anyway, now its all gone wrong,i hope you feel ashamed as the amount of time you spent writing diffrent posts( on the parrot fish that u were desperate for) you could have researched them, its no bloody good having the people on here doing the research for you, its your tank and you keep the fish.so its YOUR job,at the moment im really struggling to stay in the hobby,and you go and buy the fish and chuck`em in a tank not knowing what will happen..your posting asking for help, what are the water test results?
whats size is that tank?
what other fish are in there?
at least work with the people on here kind enough to give up their time to help,both me and yourself

Though that post wasn't exactly easy to decipher (probably impossible for many of those among us who weren't taught english as a first language), I think your effectively trying to ask if parrot fish could kill a plec?

In which case it's highly unlikely, plecs are incredibly tough and armour plated, it's more likely to be water quality or feeding issues.

Info about parrot fish? A medium sized (biggest I've seen were maybe 7") hybrid cichlid, with a deformed mouth that seems to be permanently open.
As cichlids from an mixed unknown background, their behaviour can vary and they are very often aggressive.

They are frequently seen sold as dyed fish too.

As stated, you should give water stats and tank info.

How big was the plec? Did it have a good hiding place, where the parrots can't follow? Parrots have a mean reputation, but a good sized plec is like a tank. Plecs do like to hide, and if they're being bothered, they'll usually just return to their hole.

Re-edit: Read another of your threads, and figured my first edit was mostly mistaken, but anyway: What were the other tankmates, and how big are the parrots currently? If the plec was dead and anything smaller or less armored was ok, I'd go back to three-fingers suggestion of water quality or feeding.

let me correct you..HAS not HAD ... and yes they are very healthy and well thankyou,and incidently i didnt chuck them in and hope foe the best, tho i appreciate you never get anything wrong ey ace!
and do you HONESTLY think i would have them in this tank,if i thought it was causing them any harm or upset at all?? well if your not sure of the answer then you dont know me well enough to comment. but as they say theres always one! ( i have had advice from ocsar keepers who assure me that they will be fine in here for the short term- i appreciate it wasnt ideal,but its possible with good care- which they get never ending supplies of)

Regarding parrot fish, you need a large tank for them at least 50gallons/ 250litres, they do grow to around 10" and can become agressive especially if the tank isn't big enough.



55g for 2 oscars is very short term! I started my single oscar in a 80g where he quickly moved to a 200g. Bare minimum for 1 is 90g for 2....well depends how well they get on atleast 100 UK gallon.

its not fair on the parots! tatooed it makes me sick. is saw some the other day that were green red blue yellow you name it. i pointed it out to my mum and the lfs person was earwiging, and told me they are not dyed thay are fed on die and curry powder omg currie powder . i said thats rubbish because the dye in there food wouldnt make there hole body coloured. they have been tatooed and you know it. she was astonished about my livebearer and tetra knowledege earlier on and i was offered a job omg. i said after seeing the parrots no this is an outrage. now back to the toppic parrots are a manmade speices a cross between 2 cichlids they have a unerving atitude if kept with other fish your wife is totally right

thats is all i wanted to no did not want to upset any one for god sake but ok now i have a nice big thank and my new one comes soon so i will have 2/5ft thanks and a 3 ft one i just love my fish

It wasnt nothing to do with a previous thread nor have I a problem with shelgafishface. I just felt what she said to him was wrong and all he wanted was some help, he has even informed me he has took the parrots back. I just felt it was a uneccecary contradiction on Shelag's part as she has got fish in not the right size tank either, it may be its a grow out tank but maybe this guy had plans to upgrade aswell, so whats the difference?...
