Parrot Fish

Evening,

I have Parrot fish that i gained from my parents breeding pairs. I realise that parrot fish are meant to be sterile and unable to breed but my parents have two breeding pairs (which are breeding like crazy). The parents all started off with colour but lost the colour just after breeding. The fry have slight colour to them but are mainly just a light cream colour. This is quite annoying!!

Does anybody have any idea why i can't get the orange that you see on most parrots?? Are they dyed?

If anybody has any ideas please let me know!!

p.s. i found new fry in my tank so i have a breeding pair too!! woohoo

you will definately have an easier tiome having this posted in the hybrid section of the forum. ask a moderator to move it there for you.

as for your question...

a lot of parrots are dyed, no matter what kind they are. but i heard stories of parrot fish colors getting brighter when breedign and fading back to the normal color after they are finished.

or the paleness could just mean that they are stressed. breeding can be stressful on any species of fish as it can be on any other animal.

as for sterility of the parrots, some are some aren't. no one understands exactly why this is (or they know and i just havn't read anything on it yet). i mean males are supposed to be sterile in hybrids but increasingly more and more you hear that the males can breed easily and without any problems.

Parrot fish aren't livebearers, if you're talking about those weird hybrid cichlid things that look sort of like goldfish. Try asking in the Hybrid Fish forum, where there are plenty of people in the know. Over here, we focus on goodeids, halfbeaks, and the like.

you could jsut copy and paste your topic into the hybrid sectio nand make a new post over there. the admisnistrators will just delete the post form over here or the extra one anyways

oh and my apologies, i never looked at your post count lol. so i apologize for assuming you knew.

buit like i said jsut copy your psot here and post a new topic in the hybrid section. this will be easiest and the moderators will jsut clean up the confusion for you.
