Hi, all!!! I usually post over on the betta forum, but have a question about Paradise Fish so here I am!

I would like to get an albino Paradise Fish and have read that they do not need a heater in their tank. Is that true? How low can the water temp be? We normally keep our house at 68 (F) in the winter - is that too cold for them or is it ok?

Also, how warm is too warm for a Paradise?

TIA!! :)

68 is ok

These fish do not need a heater but i would not go much lower than 68 if u can.

Ok - thanks much!

Should I decide on a heater, how warm can the tank go? I currently keep all my tanks at 80 - 82 (F). Is that too warm for a Paradise?

Just found a site on-line that says 70 - 75 F is best. Is that accurate?

Thanks again! :)

What other fish u keeping?

Most tropical fish are fine below 80.
However I would not keep Paradise that high, it stresses them a little but it speeds up all their body precesses, which is far above normal for them.
I keep most of my fish around 75 an their all fine, the only fish i put to 80 are Betta's.

I keep bettas and cichlids. The reason I keep the tanks that warm is that the parasite Ick (or Ich) cannot live above 80 degrees F.

I will keep the Paradise at about 72/73.

Again, thanks for your help - it is sincerely appreciated!!!

White spot is killed over 80 yes but you dont need to be kept their only for 7-10 days during the out break.

Once you killed it, it cant come back unless you reintroduce it.

OK - thanks for the info.

Just one more question, please. Since Paradise Fish are from the same region as bettas, do they enjoy a little Indian Almond Leaf in their water?

Thanks again!

No, they dont.

These fish have been farmed since the early 1900's and selected for the hardiest fish.
And these fish was first seen in the UK since the same time and have lived over here and breed without much trouble.

And thats with out heating etc etc, so these are very hardy.
