I decided to change my motaguense tank around yesterday, and took out the dither fish as they were getting a beating from the male from my pair. I got some pics of him today, so I thought I'd show you. He is around six months old and is six inches in length.

How the tank looks now

Thanks for looking.

Parachromis Motaguense should get to 11-12", their close cousins Manguense (Jaguars) should get to 16-18".

I have a few juvi RTMs, trying to get a pair out of them. They are imo the most stunning Parachromis especially when in breeding dress.

Lovely specimens you have their RiverDog.

Can I ask how big they are currently? And what kind of growth rate? What dithers were you using?

Right now my biggest is about 3", I'm using Clown Loaches and they seem to be doing fine together.

Also, any idea how to differentiate between males and females? What size should they be before you can differentiate the sex?

Many thanks, Max.

Very nice fish mate :good:

How big will he get when full grown ?

Thank you, Males will reach 10/12 inches, females a little smaller.

stunning fish and these guys get to around 16-18" with bulky bodies

Thanks, 16/18 inches is more Managuense, but these do get quite bulky.

Thanks mate, mine are male 6" and female 4" and I was using firstly clown barbs which were around 5" but they got badly harrassed, then I tried Convicts but two got their heads bitten off and eaten and the others were cowering underneath some slate. So now I have them on their own. They haven't spawned yet, but there are lots of signs.
The fish you see above is my male. Males tend to have heavy spotting on the fins, female lacks markings on fins. Males have very small red to brown spots all over the body, and as with all Parachromis, the male will be bigger.

I will get some pics up of my female for you to compare (my sig is my female) Females body colour is different to males. Their body is a yellow colour and obviously lacks the spots of the male.
As for age, you should soon be able to notice the difference genders you have.
