Yes that is how my original 3 behaved before I lost them. My current group of 6 are wild caught and their tank is located in my closet, so they are not in the best place for socializing. They are also the only fish in the tank. They will clean my hand if I hold it perfectly still and it still takes them 5 minuets to work up the courage to. Its probably a number of factors, they are very bold and sociable until I open the lid then they just scatter. Some friendly dither fish would probably help them. Mine are in a river-like setup. Its planted, but has 2 oversized powerheads making some strong currents. I run this tank pretty cool, 74-75ish. They are pretty variable though, one of my first ones in my sig were kept at 80 without issues. Like typical garras they have odd behaviors, they spent last week being really noisy buy trying to swim up the sides of the tank. This week they have started swimming in circles every evening. They will swim up the glass and back down in a oval shape for hours. And its in the same spots every evening. Sometimes just one fish, sometimes two fish will swim the same circle together. Just odd stuff they start one day, then will keep with that behavior for a while, then one day they just stop and switch to doing something else.Very cool I love panda garras. I have mine in a similar looking planted setup and even though im constantly told they must be in a cool river setup to thrive mine are doing fantastic. They are very adaptable though I would like to keep them in a river setup one day. Thats a shame yours are shy, mine are probably the most outgoing fish in the tank though its mostly nano sized fish and shrimp in there with only an adult bristlenose being bigger. Mine come and suck on my hand when I'm moving stuff in the tank.
