hi all

i have kept a pair of panda garra for a couple of years now and just wondering if any one else has garras which act as mine do?

they are always happy and well but every couple of months as they are tonight they will go crazy for one night.

it starts with them rumaging around seperate then all of a sudden they will bump into each other, this will start a crazy play fight where they will chase each other around seriously fast for a busrt then they will land and sit side by side for a bit, then they will go seperate ways until they bump into each other again and start another play fight.

this is great fun to watch as it will go on all night but tommorrow the pair of them will be looking totaly tired out as a result of tonight.this will happen again in about 3 months time!!

My three youngsters have been doing that for the last hour or so, since I finally moved them from the 620T to the Rio240 tonight. Incidentally, I've also spotted the reason my Barilius went so different when they came through to the Rio240 a week or so ahead of them... The Garras were acting as "dither fish" and already both the Barilius and Lionhead youngsters have been much more active this evening!

m00ms, have you not had issues with just having two? In captivity, these fish have a reputation for mentally bullying each other, where at least the bullied one will bleach out all that wonderful black/colouration. That's why its often adviced to get a single one or a group of at least three, to spread any bullying more evenly.

When I found one of my original trio (from last summer) dead in the 5-footer before Xmas with an aneurysm or something similar behind one eye, I worried about what would happen to the other two. I decided to get three new youngsters, so that the older ones should not pick out the same "baby" each time when they all meet in the near future, while in the meantime the youngsters should share bullying evenly amongst themselves in the short term.
The irony is that the older two are showing no signs of stress in the 5-footer, often residing "next door" to each other under the same piece of bogwood! Even so, I'm glad I got the new trio, as they are such active bold fish that don't give two hoots about what is going on outside the tank!

no never had a problem with having a pair as these two are my second pair.

i read up before buying some and knew about them being known to jump out of tank, sadly thou when i set up my first every external pump i had top uncovered and one jumped,i was absolutly gutted and angry at myself as i had the pair two years in a smaller tank.i straight away got another pair making 3 and they all where happy until i had nitrate problems and lost my first older garra.

my pair are always nice and bright in colour, from time to time one of them waits in the middle of the tank on the sand looking out of the tank,if you gently rub the glass with your finger he wags his tall kinda like a dog or cat does, blowing sand behind all over whoever is swimimng past! then he climbs glass so your rubbing glass on his tummy, whilst this is happening if the other garra is in sight you see that the garra on the glass has gone even brighter in colour.

i have tried but i cant tell my garras apart when they are swimming around but when the one is playing in front of you its ever so smaller than the other one.

can you tell yours apart?
