one of my neon tetras is really really pale and is just staying in one place in the bottom of the tank... he is fairly new and was just introduced to my other tetras day before yesterday and i dont remember him being pale to begin with. He is not being harassed by the other fish at all, infact the other neon tetras are schooling around him and he is in the middle. Is this normal for a new fish?

If he's pale, he prolly has NTD. In which if I were you, I would Uthanize him. Symptoms of NTD can be sluggishness and loss in color. So he prolly has NTD. Is it possible to get a pic?

Or it could simply be stress and not Neon Tetra Disease. Fish can take days or even weeks to adjust to new surroundings so I wouldn't be concerned unless it keeps up.

Yea, thats true. But it's hard to tell without a pic.

also, i had two guppies that i got at the same time... well i woke up this morning to my male guppie belly up and the female was acting weird. (The night i got my guppies, the female had babies and i saved 5 and put them in a new tank. This morning i found a 6th and left it in the tank with the other fish to see how it would do.) I came back later today and the female guppy was floating around the top of the tank. There were no visible signs of disease, I checked both dead guppies over to make sure of it, although the female had one spot of Ich that i had overlooked when i bought her, but one spot should not kill a full grown guppy right?

how long has the tank been set up? is it cycled? what are the ammonia and nitrite stats?

your neon doesnt neccessarily have NTD just because its pale. the symptoms of NTD are usually a white band going around the body, rather than just paleness. something like this:

neons are very delicate little fish and often react strongly to bad water conditions and they can get stressed easily. so that could be another possibility for its paleness.

They go pale when no light is on overnight. Mine have lasted eight months they change during day light. I also feed bloodworm that brings out the colour. I have had mine since April like this and they have grown in size and confidence. Think twice before you just kill of fish. If he is suffering you'll know it, or take it back to your lfs. They cost pence but they are still life.

How long has the tank been running for and do you have tests for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and ph?
How big is your tank, filtration used and how is it cleaned plus how many fish and what types? How often do you do water changes and do you add anything to the water?
