Can i fit a pair of hemi's in a 30g tank if im overfiltered? Yes/no? Why not? Im told they can fit but most articles iv read dont seem right. so I was just seeking info befor i buy 1 or 2 for my collection. Thanks fellas :good:

I'm guessing you mean Lifalili (Jewel cichlid) and i would say yes a pair should be fine in a 30 gal provided they truly are a pair - 2 males or 2 females is asking for trouble.

Their max size is around 5" but they can be very aggressive and for me are best kept in a species only tank with the possible exception being certain tough bottom-feeders such as Syno's.

Indeed, 30g is enough. Though I don't agree with the need for a species tanks for them, small fast fish are a good idea if you want other fish with them and like Ferris said bottom dwellers, I'd feel safer with an armoured plec over a syno. though.

They aren't the most active fish, so don't need that much room to be honest.

Thanks a bundle guys. Should i get 4-6 and pair them in my 55 since its empty?

Sounds like a good plan. :good:

No silly questions here - just good research. :good:

Yeah, 6 fish gives a good chance you will get a pair. I'd leave them to pair up, then seperate and sell/give away the spares.
