Would a pair of (2 male) guppies be Ok to keep in a tank? Or do they prefer to be in groups of more.

Also, do you think i would be overstocking if i have:

3 Corys, 1 Dwarf Gourami, 3 WCMMs and 2 guppies in a 11 US Gallon tank?

( it will have a fluval 2 internal filter and water changes weekly of 25% )

Thanks for any help!!

2 male Guppies is not likely to work. You'll have a dominant one that will most likely continually pick on the lesser dominant one. 5 seems to be the magic number for aggression. I'd suggest you either pick the WCMMs or the Guppies, since both should be in bigger groups. :)

Hey, Thanks for the info. which do you keep, Guppies or WCMM's?

Currently I keep Guppies but I've kept both. In that tank it's hard to say which would be best though. WCMMs are really subtropical fish. But the Guppies may be picked on by the Gourami. It's hard to say. :/

do you think 5 neons would be ok?

I do like guppy's though, hmmmm...

Annastasia: what fish/s would you put with a gourami and 3 corys?

My petshop only has the traditional fish, so nothing complicated.

They'd probably be okay. I don't think the Gourami would pick on them. If you wanted the Guppies, you'd probably have to get rid of the Gourami to be on the safe side. Another option is male Platies. But they are also deeper bodied fish with more waste, so that may overload your tank. It's a touch decision. Are you set on the Gourami or the Guppies?

I really want a Gourami, but the shop only sells them in pairs, so if they cant get me a single one, ill go for the guppy choice.

So its either:

Gourami
3 Corys
(and somthing else)

OR

5 Guppies
3 Corys
(and somthing else)

With the gourami option, what should i stock? (and how many)

With the Guppy option, what should i stock? (and how many)

Can i have 3 WCMM's? i read they do ok in a group of 3 or more?

Any suggestions are deeply appriciated! Thanks Annastasia!

There's tons of possiblities, for both combinations, so give me some idea of what you'd like! Some kind of schooling fish, a pair of something, a single fish...etc. :)

They'll do OK, but they'd be happier and best off with more of their own kind. You could live with and see only 3 people your whole life, but you wouldn't flourish.

Thanks! I think a paired up fish would be good, i also like schooling fish. How many Platy's would be ok Annastasia?

Hmmm...a pair of something. You might be able to do a trio of Cherry Barbs with the Gourami. Or some kind of small schooling fish, like a Tetra or Rasbora with the Gourami. For the Guppies, honestly, I'd stick with the 5+ males and maybe bump the Cory school up. For Platies, if you wanted to keep them with the Gourami, I'd say a trio. But you'd have the issue of fry then... :/

Hey again Annastasia! Sorry for bugging you all this time  Thanks for the help.

Cherry Barbs sound good, and i saw them in the lfs and they looked nice!

Would a Gourami, 3 Cherry barbs and 3 Corys be sufficient?

I have another problem though!
The lfs only sells the Gourami's in pairs  If im lucky (and they have extras) they'll give a single one!

If i do end up with 2 Gourami's, how would my stocking levels change? or would i get away with an extra gourami?

Thanks for the help!!!

That sounds okay. You might be able to add 1-2 more on to the Cory school, depending on the type. Pygmys would be a good choice. If they sell them in pairs, that's fine. It should especially be okay if you go for a smaller type of Cory. :)
