I have heard from many many people that convicts are the easiest cichlids to breed. Most of the time they will breed even if you don't want them to. What would be the smallest tank size I could use for a pair of convicts? I have heard that they are amazingly protective (aggressive) when they breed so I would probably keep them by themselves with maybe some dither fish to take their aggression out on.

I was gonna start a new topic about convicts, but found this. Are there any fish that are compatible that will fit in a 20/29 gallon tank? I'm a fan of new world cichlids.

a firemouth or Jack Dempsy but for that you need a bigger tank and if you have a p[air of cons with them, the cons would most probably kill them during breeding

I would put them in the 55g with the oscar so then the oscar has live food to chase and keep healthy, but thats what i would do.

Plecs are pretty much the only thing that are immune to breeding convicts. They can't really be hurt because they are too tough.
