Pair Of Angles

Right while my tank is cycling i am picking my fish out and my wife has her eyes on a pair of angels in my LFS, what other fish go well with angles

ps my tank is a 3foot 35Gal tank.

Quite a few fish will go with angels, I like the whole SA theme eg. 1 school of tetras, corys for the bottom and angels to be the centre piece.

On another note, how high is the tank? Angels require a tall tank due to the size their fins can grow to.

to be honest no
as you may have guessed i am new to this so i am doing some research into what i CAN put in with them first so i don't fall in love with some fish that are not compatible.

like said keep the angels as the main fish and work around them.

you could have plecs,corys,tetras, maybe some smaller type of cichlid like rams or kribensis.

for that sort of tank i would do this;

Put some nice shapes of bogwood in
put some plants that dont require lots of light and CO2 like amazon swords
then have the pair of angels,
a school of 12 tetras, personally rummynose, but they may get eaten if the angels are small and grow up with them they shouldn't is not you could get a larger tetra like black phantom's
then a larger school of corys, corys come in many different colour forms some like colder water though so look through the fish index.
a pair of german rams
and a bristlenose plec.

that would amke a lovely tank in my eyes but its only suggestions!

Only problem I see, is that if the Angelfish are sexually active they are at least a year old. This means that they aren't going to be small, most likely big enough to eat the small dithers (especially at the size you buy them at the LFS.)


I wouldn't rule out Rainbow fish as dithers. They are highly attractive and colorful, and depending on the type can get anywhere from 2-5 inches.


All the other fish mentioned seem awesome!


Remember, any fish you think could fit into the Angels mouthes most possibly will end up in it, although with Angels it can be unpredictable...


Are these guys a breeding pair? If they are, are you going to raise the fry? The fry will need their own tank, and then a grow out tank. It's lots of work so get ready and read up. These guys will get aggressive with other fish when they breed, so be careful adding other Cichlids they would see as a threat...

If you don't want to raise the eggs then just wash them off in tap water once the parents are finished spawning.
