Painting

I wouldn't unless the tank is completely sealed up to the max, the paint fumes and chemicals are harmful to fish. I would personally move your tank to a different room if you have to paint your room.

I'd go with moving the tank, if at all possible. It'll also make it a lot easier to do the painting...
Otherwise, I've heard you can seal the tank and put an air pump in a separate, fume-free room, feen in a very long air-line to the tank, and get ound it that way. Never tried this myself though.

You could, as annka5 said, seal up the tank or something. And just as an added precaution, I'd open all windows and maybe even get a pedestal fan in there or something for good ventilation.

I covered up our tank with a large sheet of cloth while we got the room painted. Also opened up the windows to let some fresh air in. But that was in summer. Now it might not be as easy for you.

I heard all you had to do when painting is cover the tank with a comfter or something? :dunno: But if you get the brand of paint call beur or something that it doesn't have fumes because thats what I used in my room to paint before I put the tanks in and their were no smells or fumes that came from the paint.

I'm sure if you are using Latex paint that it is no big deal. I know that it is even safe for pregnant mothers to be in the room since the fumes are not toxic. I have painted our living room without doing anything special with the 20 gal hex using Semi-gloss latex paint and had no problems. I just had to use a brush to get behind the stand where I couldn't squeeze a roller. Draping a cloth over the lid would be a good idea anyway since I'm sure you don't want drips and splatter on the hood and that would keep any drips from entering the water through any openings you may have in the hood. I am not sure about oil-based paints since the fumes are much more toxic but it seems that not many people use them anymore.
