She has a mouth full of eggs, I only have a pair of them so is it better to remove her or will i remove the male or leave them be. What is the best thing to do to help the proccess?
This is her first spawn so what are the chances of her holding the eggs and not spitting?
Any advice at all would be welcome. Thanks.

Sorry i think i should have posted this in fish breeding section :*)
Please move this if you wish mod's or i might post it in there also.

you should remove her if she is getting picked on by the male or other fish. while she is holding she has no way to defend herself. the eggs will hatch in her mouth and she will spit the fry. she will not spit the eggs.

you can also strip her of the eggs. the eggs will need to be placed in a tumbler though.

They are in a tank on their own, I read that it is common that they can spit the eggs on their first spawn. I know how to strip but what do you mean by a tumbler and what is it for? Will they eat the fry themselves?

Thanks for your replys.

maybe....do you have many hiding places? i tend to let nature take its course...otherwise i would have thousands of them..

you strip the eggs from her by opening her mouth and removing the eggs. the tumbler simulates the females mouth by tumbling the eggs. a female will hold for about 3 weeks, in which time she will not eat and cannot defend herself. after she has spit the fry, she is in a weakened state and will require a few days to recuperate. some do strip the females if they are in a community tank to avoid losing the female to aggression.

it may take a few tries for her to get it right. all fish are different. you could place her in a breeding net if the male does get too aggressive with her or add dither fish to the tank to take some of the aggression away from her. make sure that she has hiding places to rest.

lol. how can you let nature take its course in a human controlled environment...
:p

you know what i meant.

if you want to keep them all do as semper says.. my fish breed all the time ...if i stripped my females of the eggs evertime i would be over run...

surely leaving them too it is more natural than stripping though ;) but i know what its like when you want to see fry. after a while you will be wishing they would stop breeding.

Just to give you guys an update

I left her in the tank with the male, Her mouth doesn't look so big anymore but she still isn't eating anything, I think she may have swallowed the eggs but
Im not sure, If they swallow does it take them a while to start eating again?
