Overstocking

I'm worried about overstocking in my 5gal hex tank. I want to add some pygmy corys and cherry shrimp into it but... I'm not sure if the filter could handle it....

Would this stocking work? :

[Already in tank]
1 Male Betta
1 Apple snail

[What I want added]
10(+/-) Cherry shrimp
2-(3) Pygmy cory


Would this work? Or is it too much for my tank?

Sounds fine to me too. As long as you clean it regularly and have a strong filter, you're good.

That's the thing, I'm not sure that it is strong enough...It's just a little biowheel filter that came with the tank. Thus why I'm worried it may not be able to handle 3-4 fish.


But... if it doesn't work I can always take the fish back

Hmm... what tank package did you get? Who manufactures it? I have a biowheel filter in one of my tanks. It's not as great as Aquaclear filters, but it's okay. As long as you don't have just an underground filter or something, you should be good to go.
