Hello all, I have a 37.5 litre aquarium and am wondering whether I have it overstocked? I have 3 black widows, one siamese fighting fish. two swordtails and one dwarf aquatic frog (not with claws). Thanks in advance.

Swordtails are a bit extra apart from the obvious Betta that will eventually last a couple of minutes the day Black widow tetra realise its fins are tasty. I cannot comment on the frog but if you replaced your sword tails with something that remains a bit smaller like Platies etc. they would be ok and not over stocked.

Most definately, not only is the tank overstocked, the compatability is bad. You could keep the betta and frog (assuming it's definately an ADF), but swordtails get big and are very messy, and black widow tetras are schooling and fin nippers.

Hmmm, that doesn't sound too good. The shop where I buy my fish has yellow stickers on the tanks that say that they are community fish. I was led to believe that they would all get on, not only that but I could add more fish up to 11 or twelve for my size of tank.

Well. IMO you are not really overstocked but its more of a personal thingie ;). Betta is not a community fish.. not because it is dangerous but because it can be a victem to fin nipping and most tetras are great fin nippers... They should mention with black widows that they should not be kept with long finned fish like Betta or Veil finned angels etc. Apart from this, they are indeed community fish.

Even as per the book rules, you can have 10" of fish in the tank but only if you have 1" fish. Sword tails are a tad bigger but tetras are kind of ok.

What is the filter on the tank? Any Live plants?

Filter is a Fluval plus 1, it came with the tank. I have one live plant at the moment ( no idea what kind ) I was planning on adding more plants though.

Don't let your Black Widows get hungry if you have really small fish!

My Black Widows caused 1 Albino Glowlight Tetra to jump out of the tank and they ate the back half of 2 others!
