Overstocked Or Ok

If you don't want more platies then I would advise you not to get more. You will compound your problem and end up with a million fish you don't want rather than only one. Then what are you going to do? Keep platies forever? And have hundreds? Of course it is just my opinion but it seems like you might end up with quite a problem on your hands, and could be setting yourself up to get discouraged with fishkeeping. If you're keeping extra fish because you're feeling guilty, it will be more difficult to get yourself to care for them diligently.

If you're really concerned about it being unhappy and you don't want more, see if you can find another person with platies who can take it.

TammyLiz is absolutely right! Whie your platy would be happier with company, you will end up with fry, and then you will have to get rid of them or house them. I have a similar problem with guppies, to the point I am setting up a tankful of predators this winter specifically to solve the problem. (It's the circle of life.)

Don't put yourself in the position of making a bunch of fish miserable to make one fish happy for a little while.

Yea, I think I'm gonna see if someone wants her. She is a very strong fish as she was one of only 2 to survive the massive death which was my tank for some time. And she has beautiful markings

Anyone interested????????????

I moved the golden gourami back into the 55gal ( it was sad to watch her smim ony 2 feet) the bala is most likely leaving this weekend

You mention the LFS wont buy it back 9why not just ask them to take it off your hands for free im sure they will if you explain your issue, as its a problem you have and anyone willing to take it is actually doing you a favour.

what is the convertion from u.s gallons to litres?

1 US gallons = 3.7854118 litres :good:

Gallons (U.S.) [1.00] = Litres [3.79] = Gallons (U.K.) [0.83]

thanx. its a bit confusing what with u.s gallons, u.k gallons and litres. Its all to much for a pea sized brain like mine to handle

If you are going to have more platys, i would advise another two females. Yes, platys do produce a lot of fry, however that does not mean you have to raise them- you can either feed the fry to a type of fish that is known to have a taste for small fry, or you can euthanise them with a humane method like the freezing water/temp shock method.
Either way, there's only so many times a female platy can get pregnant before she runs dry so to speak. Also, be wary about rehoming fish- i firstly recommend rehoming the platy if you find someone who will take it, however make sure that they will be a responsable and caring owner towards the fish. If you cannot find anyone suitable to take the fish off your hands, you wil just have to keep the fish and buy another 2 females or 1female and 1male platys to live with the current platy.

the reason the LFS won't take the fish back is they only take back fish which are harder to get, for instance they said they would gimme 24.00 for the bala shark I have in the 55 gallon becuase it is over a year old and isn't sick, but platties cost 1.99 and they ALWAYS get them in so it's not in their best intrest to take one off my hands becuase they would have to home it seprately from the others and charge more explaining to their customers that it is very meature and deffintly not sick ( thus impliliying that the others maybe) as far as getting more I would rather not. I have to sit back and think about this very carefully becuase i want to do what is right by the fish but I also as someone said before don't want to force myself into getting fish I don't really want.
