Overhead Tank Lighting ?

Hi i have a rio 400 am thinking about getting overhead lighting. is there anyone who has this. do you just leave the top of the tank with nothing on ? dont fish jump out ?

This has always worried me, too.. it'd be great to see some responses from people that have this setup.

I did have it over my ray tank for some time....but rays aren't really known to be carpet surfers.

i imagine you would use glass silders / or just glass to cover the top (thin glass)

I wouldnt have the lid of tanks for 3 reasons

fish jumping, household substances polluting the tank, too much water getting into the air of your home (damp)

My SW has overtank lighting I use coverglasses.

My planted freshwater community has overtank lighting and is just open top.

I've never had a fish jump (because i choose my fish carefully in light of the tank being open top), I'm careful what i spray in the room (no air freshener etc) and contrary to popular belief, most homes in the UK are actually too dry due to central heating rather than too wet, so you'd have to really try to get damp from having an open-top tank. You could actually say it's a good thing. Anyway, if you're worried, all you need is a de-humidifier, but i've never bothered.

I've never had any problems with it at all, and it opens up new worlds in the planted tank game.
