I have a 15 lire baby biorb i was wondering if anyone could tell me if it was ok or if it was overcrowded i currently have in there:

1 fantail goldfish(small)
1 black moor goldfish(medium)
1 Plec- dont know which bout 3 inch from head to tail
4 small white cloud mountin minnow

yesterday my goggle eye goldfish(bubbles) died from SBD .....R.I.P.....

I am going to wait untill saturday to see if the water levels are ok, if they are would you reccomend to get any more fish, i was thinking of a ranchu?

thanks

I'm afraid its Very heavily overstocked?
All those in a baby biorb? Wow, it would be fully stocked with just the 4 minnows tbh??

Have you tested the water recently, i bet that was the cause of the death

very very overstocked im afraid all of those fish need to be rehomed ASAP

You make it sound asthough he were a monster killing them, if you're going to say it's overstocked explain. don't just tell him to rehome them.

Sorry to say, but the tank is overstocked. Not all of the fish need to be rehomed as people may tell you, however I would highly recommend not having anymore fish in that tank.

The reason why stocking with goldfish is so difficult is because they require 2gallons of water per 1" (the general rule of thumb being 1gallon per 1"), also, they produce twice (if not more) waste than most fish. Seeing as you have 15L, which is approximatly half gallon, you really don't even have the room for the one. However, with diligense on the water changes, and an oversized filter you could have the 4 white clouds and the 1 SMALL goldfish. Unfortunatly, once that small goldfish grows you will need to rehome it.

Hope this helps,

Ryan.

are you sure, my plec just stays at the bottom of the tank, the white clouds take up hardly anything , its not half a gallon, its five(isnt it?) 15 litres

thanks for your help

Sorry, was a long night. Yeah 5gallons, was thinking of 37.8L=1gallon for some reason. And trust me, I am sure, plecos produce a large amount of waste and grow to over 2feet in length. And the white clouds are probably at the top due to poor water quality and lack of oxygen within the water.

Yeah thats why he just PM'd me asking if he should just flush his plec down the toilet...

by the sounds of that he shodnt be fish keeping. bad case of newbie not doing reserch.

yup agreed that the minnows could stay. and personally i wouldnt keep the goldfish neither.. but one SMALL one could last for a limited time.. personally id rehome, and buy a more suitable fish for a 5gallon.

This guy has been poorly informed,he PM'd me also telling me that goldfish are fine in Bowls that are 7 or 8 litres so he cant grasp my advice telling him you need around 100 litre per fancy goldfish.

I advised him to get a heater and keep a siames fighter or something, those bio orbs are rubbish...pretty but totally unpractical.

your tank IS overstocked, none of those fish should be in a 15 litre really, personally I wouldn't even keep the minnows in that.

the goldfish DO need 100 litres minimum each
the pleco - probably common - needs at least 280 litres
and those minnows would appreciate more swimming room, at least 25-30 litres long - not a round bowl shape.

those baby bioorbs are a waste of money.

LOL Without turning this into a bashing, really this guy should be taking our advice onboard rather than PM'ing each individual user correcting them in his own way lol! is that not the reason he joined and asked the question? to get advice :S I mean he obviously had a idea it was overstocked before he asked the question..or he wouldn't have asked it!

I think the simple answer to this..and teh PM you sent me is...

Goldfish are Large coldwater fish,Fancy Goldfish are slighlty smaller but not much, they need a tank of around 100 litres per deformed fancy fish or much much bigger for a legit goldfish!

You wouldnt keep a Oscar in a 15 litre bowl and gold fish get a similar length to that....even bigger.

The popular image of a goldfish in a small fishbowl is an enduring one. However, some countries have banned the sale of bowls of that type under animal rights legislation due to the risk of stunting, deoxygenation and ammonia/nitrite poisoning in such a small environment.[11]

The supposed reputation of goldfish dying quickly is often due to poor care amongst uninformed buyers looking for a cheap pet.[12] The true lifespan of a well-cared-for goldfish in captivity can extend beyond 10 years.

*sigh*

These stupid biorbs shouldn't be sold. It's not the fishkeeper's fault, it's all the advertising.

Goldfish are BIG fish, they grow 12" or more, so you should rehome them or put them in a pond.
Plec is most likely a common plec, which also grow to 12" and over. (can't really say for sure until you post pics)

The minnows are fine, but you should really add them slowly over time, if you've not done a nitrogen cycle yet.

Your tank is actually 3.5 gallons, approx.
