Hi
Im really new to fish-keeping and my dad bought me my first tank (120 litres) about 3 moths ago.
Since then, i have done everything accroding to instrctions from the internet, the guys at the fish store and books i borrowed from the library...
I know have:
2 Clown loaches (quite small btw!)
5 Neon tetras
5 Black phantom tetras
5 Serpae tetras
3 Platys and
5 Silver mollys

all in my 120 litre tank

is it too overstocked?
I want to sell the clown loaches back to the shop. will this help? also, the fish don't seem to be stressed or unhappy from too many fish! if they did look ill will this be a sign that my tank is too overstocked??

Any relpy would help!
Thanks...
:fun:

The tank is a little heavily stocked, but nothing water changes and good filtration can't cure! Remove the loaches, and it will be a very nice tank!

Clown loachs aren't the fastest growers. I would wait until they get a little bigger, and your lfs gets in some nice corys. Trade the loachs for the corys, they won't get too large for the tank, and will help with keeping excess food off of the substrate.

I have 3 female and 2 male mollys, and im not sure about the platys!! how can u tell if the platy is a male or female??

look at the bottom fins near there bottom, if its a fan shape its female if its pointy its male. its the same for all livebearers, so with you having both male and female mollies you will get a load of fry (baby fish) and if your platies are male and female too you will quickly become way over stocked

an exaggeration for sure

or not, i have had experience of keeping larger numbers of livebearers than here and even going down the survival of the fittest route with fry and still had a massive number survive even with very little decore in my tank, i am just warning them what will happen if there not careful

^^ Agreed, my gf's dad has a tank with a few white mollies, dispite the gourami's best efforts they still had a large number of fry survive and are now overun with inbred mollies.
