I have just received a fluval 305 (got it for £10. Bargain!) And was wondering if over filtration is an issue? My tank that I will be setting up is 100l, and the 305 runs at 1000lph. I know it is designed for tanks up to 300l so will over filtration be an issue?

To be honest, ignore what they say you can put it on. A 305 is absolutely fine for that sized tank.

Oh, and to answer the question, overfiltering is not a problem. Too much flow can be an issue occasionally, but too big a filter simply spreads the filter bacs over a wider area, and means that you can run your filter not crammed full which is good for stopping it from clogging. Plus if you do get dead spots then the bacteria have area to move into. It's a bit like a house being too big, far less a problem than a house being too small.

I have a 29gl (110L I believe) And that is the exact filter I have. Works GREAT!

The ratings for these filters are based on them being empty, as in no media or bacteria in them.  Also, the amount of water moved is much less the longer the filter is in use between cleanings.  All of my tanks have filtration that's rated for 2-3 times the tank's volume and as Dr. Rob already said, too much current is the only downside really.  That problem can be solved by strategically positioning the spray bar, adding a pressure valve, or installing a baffle.
