Hi, I have a 130litre tank that is being filtered at around 1000 litres per hour.

Are there any simple methods of filtering the same amount but reducing the current it generates.

I thought about attaching some kind of tubing to the filter outlet, Running the tube down to the bottom of the tank, securing it with sucker pads, Block the end and drill lots of holes near the end for the water to escape. I have 2 filters, A Fluval 2 and another 800LPH filter I got from ebay.

Does anyone have any good methods of doing this they could share. :good:

Yep, you just described building your own spray bar, only they are usually placed horizontally accross the top of the water (just below, to create surface movement). You could also direct the flow to the side of the tank, so the rear/side wall diffuses the flow somewhat.

Is it a fluval 2+ They have a flow adjuster on them. If its not the "+" then I don't think it does.

But reducing the flow rate also reduces the turnover.

Build a spray bar. I had to build one for my tank because there was too much current. You dont get reduced flow you just spread the output more evenly.

Thanks guys, I think i'll just buy one since they are so cheap, I would put the spray bar on the larger filter as its the one that's causing the strong current, Hopefully I can get one that will fit the filter. :)

What make is the filter and I'll try and find a spray bar that can fit it?

It's This filter

What sort of fish do you have in the tank :) ? Many fish really do enjoy a strong current in their tank.

14 molly fry, Half are in a breeding net, Half in the tank, Just to see how they get on. They are staying at the surface or the very bottom. They don't seem to like the current one bit lol.

Yeh fry don't like strong currecnt. Need to be careful they don't get sucked into the filter! Is it an internal filter??

No idea, It does have an 'old' feel to it if you know what I mean, It isn't the same as the pic on ebay. I don't mind that tho as I hide the filters with plants.
I could make a spray bar easily enough, and get the exact length I want so I might just do that!

Yeh that sounds like a better idea. For now you could direct the flow at the glass so it isn't as strong.
