I ordered some algae waffers online which arrived today so I put one in my tank which was soon guarded heavily by a mollie, I put another one as the fish were going crazy for this one waffer all fighting to get to it. The waffers have now gone BUT most of the fish now have bloated bellies and some are looking a bit lathargic. I hope I am being paranoid worrying about them but should I be contemplating a water change and using the gravel vacumn to try and suck up any left over food or would this just cause stress?

HELP!!!

How many fish? How many wafers in total? When did you last feed them? Which brand of wafers?

Fish 18 neons (about half are bloated, these appear to be worse off and there are two which have a couple of bumps in the belly area following eating), 6 danios (all appear slightly bloated), 2 mollies (look fine considering they ate most), 2 platys (look fine, didn;t seem interested), 3 sae (look fine)

2 waffers in total

Spirulina aglae waffers

I feed them once a day, yesterday they were given normally tropical flake

Sounds like its time to break out the peas :good:

Let your fish get hungry let them fast for a day then get a few frozen peas from the freezer put them in water then in the microwave for about 10 seconds then remove the hard shell of the pea then crush well reform into a pea shape leave for an hour ( there are many ways of preparing peas this is the way I was taught )

The peas help with fishes digestion and is a useful thing to feed once a week or fortnight.

+1 for above, although you probably won't need to go as far as the peas.

thanks onebto!! Will give the peas a try in 48 hrs then, they don't look like they'll die of starvation before then  after posting I ran down stairs to make myself a cuppa and I checked them again and the neons have livened up a wee bit  still looking bloated but at least they're looking more awake

I've never used these waffers before, how many should i feed in one sitting and shud they be prep'd in any way to avoid this occuring again? I nearly had heart failure and felt  at the thought of killing them all in one swoop

Kittykat - ive just seen you're reply!! Thanx for being so quick on the case, i could probably do with a brown paper bag to calm me down now

Personally I use Hikari algae wafers along with others from there range there food is constantly good :good:

If two had this result then I suggest putting one in but break it up into 3 or 4 peace's and scatter along the tank
