Whenever i do a water change, i add a dechlorinator (Of Course!) But when i add the dechlorinator i always add a little more than it says because i am a little paranoid that it wont fully work if i use the exact amount.

Like, if i change 60L of water, I will add enough de-chlorinator for about 65-70L of water, just to be safe. Thats in my big tank,

But in my small tank, where i only change 6L, its hard to only get enough de-chlorinator for just 6L. My declorinator, you add 2.5ml of dechlor for every 10L of water. So its pretty hard to measure less than 2.5ml in the measuring container provided. Most times i would add close to 2.5ml (enough for 10L!)

So what im asking, is it safe to do this? or is it bad to add too much?

I dont mind about the $ factor, id rather my fish be safer!

Thanks
Mike

There is a belief that too much dechlorinator will end up with a temnporary dip in dissolved oxygen levels, though I know of no-one who has experienced this.

I've doubled up on dechlor due to water fluctuations. Unless you end up dumping a 10x normal amount in, your fish will be fine.

It's been a while, but some time back I read (on this forum or possibly another) a reply from someone who asked Tetra if it was possible to overdose their water conditioner. The rep basically indicated that they (Tetra) tested a 50x overdose and the fish suffered no ill effects.

I haven't really 'measured' the amount since I first started. I just pour in what seems like the right amount, always more than the 5 or 10mL or whatever small amount the bottle says.

Do you guys let the water sit in a bucket over for a few days before putting it in tank?

I change out around 300 gallons weekly, that's 60 five gallon buckets. I hose the water in & add dechlor on the fly. I quit using buckets long ago.

I have a ml dropper, the thing is ancient, and will probably break now that I am talking about it. 20 drops of dechlorinator is equal to about 1 ml, if it ever dies, I just have to mark 1ml on a glass dropper.
