Out Of Date Food?

How much affect will food out of date by 2 months have on the fishes health?

Cheers
Timmystood :good:

depends on what type of food it is. if it was live/frozen food might just it's nutritional value but it might also cause problems with the health of the fish so I would chuck it.

Flake and pellets should be fine as long as kept in a sealed container and arn't exposed to humidity or heat

EDIT: spelling

Yeah sorry I should have added that... it's flake food.

The reason I ask is because the tank that i've been given it too.. all the fish have got very very fat and i've lost like 3 fish in that one tank in about 4 weeks... water stats fine.

you might be feeding them too much. feed once a day only about a pinch of food depending on your stocking.....

The feeding pattern is the same as it always has been (for a year or so) and no problems before.. this is why I wandered if the food was an issue.. It's 2 months out of date :/

well it shouldn't make them fatter unless its a high fat/protein flake maybe made for predators. It could also be a bacterial infection as this may cause them to look "chubby" as the bacterial colony grows inside them and bulges their skin. I can't say for sure as I've never had a fish with a bacterial infection but do some research on something like that and it may be.

It should only lose some of it's nutritional value and vitamins.

I use it to feed the worms though :D

I think actually it could be an internal bacteria infection.. I have medication here. Would using this anti-internal bacteria infection on the tank do any damage if it turned out not to be a internal bacteria infection (if that makes sense)!
