I have been handed some goldfish food which has originally came from a Pet Shop free of charge.

The expiry dates on the food range from September 2011 on the Tetra Goldfish flakes to April 2005  on the Supa Ant Eggs (they're even in the old-style Supa tub!).

In total I have 6 tubs of food that are all out of date, however I would like to know if it's just a case of binning them of if they have any use or can be used at all.

Obviously, I wouldn't eat something that has a best before date of 2005 on it, but i'm not sure how strict these dates are for fish food (in the case of the September 2011 Tetra Goldfish flakes).

I'd like to stress that I have no intention of feeding my fish anything that would cause them any ill health just for the sake of saving £5-10.

Cheers,

I don't know how dangerous it is or if it is at all dangerous but I personally wont feed my fish food that expired in 2005. If it was a few months then I probably will.

Cheers, just to let you know this is where it all went (well, everything that was out of date):

:good:

Good idea

its not worth the life of the fish :D

There is no way I would feed out of date food to my fish. Some people stock up on fish foods but I buy them as I need them, usually two weeks before they are due to run out.
What sort of fish do you keep? Goldfish? What do you feed them mormally?

I'd feed mine food that is out of date by a few months, it's more than likely perfectly fine if you stored it as intended.

Expired fish food would not be dangerous. It could be less nutritious, though. The expiration dates often are based on the life of the vitamins and such in the food.
