As some of you know, our beautiful male betta Storm died a week ago. We went out last weekend and got another. This one is a VT and not another CT as the LFS only had 2 CT and they were not very nice looking. So we decided on this one and he's just as gorgeous as the last one. Here's some pictures of him. I couldn't get him to flare for me, but you can still see him pretty well. He is a dark blue with the tips of his fins white.

And this one is a picture of our female, Tommy (don't ask.... our 4 year old named her)

Sorry for you loss, but what a beauty. Tommy's very pretty as well. Could be short for Thomasina. :D

I've breed quite a few betta's over the last 10 years and he look's loverly.

Now the only thing is you females looks like a younge male to me, how long have u had her?

It dose have the body look of a female (slender back end and plump belly), but the fin's look to long like a male strating to sex out.

We've had her since the end of Sept. I was told that she is a spade tale when I asked about her fins. She has always looked like this. How would I know for sure that she is a female or not?

Look under her belly for the little white ovespory tube. :fun: If its not there than shes a he .But since youve had her since sept and theres been no change my moneys on SHE.
Also you could try putting her/him close to another male . Girlies have a way of showing there true selfs when a male is around.
Eer Im trying not to go on and on but .... I dont see any ventrals on tommy! It could be that she is a very under developed male, stunted if you will. Anyway im curious now let us know.

I have noticed a little white spot under her belly in the last week. Is that an ovipositor or whatever they are called? The male we have definitely does not have the same kind of spot.

What do you mean by "showing their true self" when a male is around?

Well she's a stunning fish, I've never seen a female like her and he's loverly.

you gong to have a breeding project ;)

Yeh. That little white spot would be an ovespory tube, Only females have them so we know know that Tommy is in fact a Tammy :p .
F,Y,I the ovespory is where the eggs are dropped from during spawning.

What I mean by showing there true selfs is 9 times out of 10 a female will get stress bars on her when a male is present (Up to Debate)and will start acting well qwerky,Head down etc etc.

if you breed that female you would get lovely little babies. It looks like a female/male,but my monies on female.
