Well.. the nano has been going about 10 months now - no fatalities of the clean up crew (apart from the snails the hermits ate!)

The temp has been stable for 8 months now and I'm happy with the water changes and salitly swings etc...
but still dont want to risk fish in there (its only 7gals)

So... I decided to try something a bit unusual (and against most peoplse reason for going marine)

I've got a Black lyre-tail molly "going marine" upstairs :)

Its the most "bread and butter" fish I've bought in years :)

He's gone past brackish and is now into the relms of marine.

at 16:20 he was fresh water
at 17:30 he was brakish at about 1.010
and about 45 mins ago he was at 1.020

He'll be in the tank soon :)

Some thing cool about mollys in marine is that if you get 3-4 (Atleast one male and two female) They breed in the tank. The fry dont survive though your fish/coral eat them. Its a good source of fun seeing your fish go crazy after the fry.

They also eat Hair algae.

I am thinking about puting some in my soon to be sump.

You beat me to it, this is what I was considering doing LOL. Sounds good so far, are you only going to keep one and keep the bio-load low? Keep us posted.

well... he went in at about 20:30... and he's still with it!

however - I didnt notice the little blighter has white spot...

The salt should sort that out....

Exactly :)
The tank runs really well excemp if i dont keep an eye on the hair algae... it forms clumps on the live rock... easy molly food :)

a little FW knowledge carries over to the SW side
Unfortunately, marine hair algae is quite different in composition than freshwater hair algae... a notable fact is that marine green hair algae is toxic. ;) I have never seen a molly eat it.

"Mo" has been munching happily on ours...

He's been doing green poos since he went in the tank :D

Here he is :)

I love seeing mollies in marine tanks, they are so much healthier and active than they usually are.

Sail fin mollies in a reef tank look stunning as well.

we stuck with the one... unfortunatly he dissapeared last week - not seen him since (or any part of him)

not sure what happened as he was looking very healthy...

since he has gone the hair algae has gone nuts

I might try endlers next :D

Smithrc!!!
Such a good tank man, why a mollie? U can keep them in FW why do u want them in Marine?
I am not flaming please dont think that, i just want to see your point of view :) the only way i can see putting a mollie in a SW tank is for food :D :D
anyway show us your whole tank, i want to see the best LR ever!!!

First post says it all really - I'd love to have a pair of clowns and a big leather - but its only 7 gallons....
The temp is not all that stable either (during the summer) so I didnt want to risk more expensive fish.

Besides - It looks like he has become food in the end!

Here is a good shot... It's a little over run with sea weeds at the moment as I've been a little slack so this is the best piccy your going to get ;)
