i had a bad day yesterday , got home from work to find my 8x2x2 cloudy , all the fish seemed fine and i had done a "big feed" the night before , flake for the 4 different type of tetras , floating sticks for the oscars gouramis and big barbs , and some daphnia and prawns for my crayfish and juruense
last night i decided to do a massive clean up project which in the end took me from 7.50pm to 11.15 pm
firstly i drained some water into a cube tank and moved the fish into that then i removed 2 thirds of the water and disposed of it , then the best bit ! my decorative backing slpit revealing that it had a big hole already and was full of silt and ####e which preceeded to leak into the tank all over the gravel
so , i removed the remaining fish , the juruense a 15 inch plec and the crayfish into a poly box seperately because the crayfish and the juruense go through the tetras like nobodys business if they get too close and then i removed all the water all the gravel and thoroughly cleaned the tank
i had 3 bags of sand in the garage which i intended to use at some point so i threw the gravel away and filled the bottomwith around 2 inches of sand , i then filled the tank half way with tap water which included 10 buckets out of the hot tap
then i pumped most of the original tank water into the tank and heated it for about an hour , it soon reached 79 degrees so i went o put the plec crayfish and juruense in the tank , juruense is upside down dead as a dodo , gutted
anyway over the next hour or so i filled the tank back up with the original water so it has had about 75% water change , i never even cleaned the sand , just chucked it all in filled her up and put the 23 fish back in , tonight i have come in from work it is crystal clear and all fish seem happy
WHAT A BLOODY NIGHT , i will post some pics soon too , cheers , Paul.
