Hey again guys, My 60litre has completed cycling for like 2 days and i have 10 cherry barbs in their, they are mellow and are shoaling loosely without any distress, they are perfectly comfortable and accept food. i am thinking about adding a male Dwarf gourami for kind of a center piece fish but Otto fish (i think) have caught my eye?
Can you give me some info on them please, although my tank is probably full on stocking i could maby add a couple after like 6 months, because Ive heard they are sensitive. or could you suggest some other fish i could add after the tank matures ?

i apologize for the duplicate post, my browser screwed up.

I believe that's a 15 gallon tank, and if so that's very small for cherry barbs...With that said regardless of swimming room I think your tank is full. If it's over filtered then maybe 3-4 ottos, just for the fact that they stay at the bottom and don't take up much room. Definetly no on any other fish that stays in the middle. Tbh I would give away the cherry barbs, but I'm sure that's not an option. The best thing you could do right now is not add any more fish....and you said the cycle ended 2 days ago, when did you add the fish? Did you do a fish in cycle? If you just added the fish watch out for spikes..so, you could add a few ottos if yourmtank is heavily planted, and with a tank that stocked I'd be doing 20% water changes every other day, just my opinion.

the cherry barbs seem fine for now friend and i did fishless. i test water everyday and i plan 25% every 4 days

i also beleive a thread on here stated the minumum for cherries is 10gal, i think

I would just keep it at the way it is. But that's just my opinion.

I know cherries are schooling fish, but I wouldn't put any more than 5 in a 15 gallon if you want another fish. But cherries need the space to zip around. Just keep it the way it is or just upgrade to a 20 or bigger while you have your 10 cherries in the 15. But even if you do upgrade to a 20 gallon, just get the one dwarf gourami. No other fish. But again, that's just my opinion lol :)

I believe, and plenty people say that I am being too strict, that cherry barbs require a thirty gallon minimum. That's a long tank, mind you. They are active, not so nippy as their tiger cousins, but still active. They do not form tight schools, but they do need large groups, so at least you've got that going for you. I hope you also have a good mix of males and females, as the males can be overly zealous in their attempts to mate with any females.

(A mellow cherry barb is sometimes a sign of fish distress. As I've said, these are typically active species.)

I agree, although they can live and be healthy in a 10-20 gallon they still deserve more room.....it's kind of like keeping bosemanis in a 30 gallon.

yeah i have the ratio of 6 females to 4 males, and thanks for the help

I have 4 ottos in my 95L/20G. I love them.
I moved my cherry barbs from my 64L to the 95L and they are a lot happier. I only have 2 males and 4 females but they seem happy and fly about. They also do their own individual thing. Loosely shoal together sometimes.
