Hi all,
After introducing 5 Otto,s into my heavily planted tank 1 week ago to combat brown diatoms (tank only 7 weeks old) these little guys have done an amazing job in clearing up,this leads on to my question. I realise i will have soon start supplementing there food because the rate they are eating they,ll soon be getting hungry !!!! What different foods can i feed them and how do i serve it up

Courgette, cucumber (some blanch, some don't) and algae wafers are all suitable, although you may find that your Oto's don't take to prepared foods, they are known to die off in aquarium quite regularly due to this.
I've never tried it myself but you could also try the Hillstream Loach stone in the sun trick, never actually heard of this in relation to Otos but i'm certain it would work. Although i have no idea if the algae would spread easily or not.
Basically put a vase of tank-water with some fertilizer out in the sun or under a suitable ligt and add some rocks, you (apparently) should eventually be growing your own food source for the Otos like this, without encouraging (?) an algae build up in your tank....
:dunno:

To be honest, your ottos will probably be fine on what they fine occuring naturally in the tank. Ive got ottos and never supplement their diet. Unless its a very small tank 5 should be fine.

I tend to drop a few of the normal catfish pellets in there once a week and this gives the Otos and pitbulls something extra.
