Anyone know what the problem is?

Ive had the Oto a 3 or 4 months now so it isn't fresh out of a LFS.

Thanks,

Darren

is it eating alrite

Cant ever really tell if they are eating but my tank is pretty clear of algae and they eat cucumber when put in. This big bump seems to have just appeared over night. Looked up the dropsy link and it dosent look like dropsy. None of its scales are risen makign it look like a pine cone and ivenever seen dropsy occur and make a bump like this overnight although i guess it could be possible.

Yep. A chubby oto is a healthy oto. In fact it's one of the hardest fish to overfeed. My guess is that it's probably ok, but consider the possibilty of a swimbladder disorder (is it swimming well) and internal infection or swelling? anything down that line? Dose with a general tonic in a few days if you're sure something is wrong, or any furthur symptoms develop.

Thanks guys will keep it in check. The bulge is much bigger then over feeding would show. He couldnt have eaten that much just overnight surley :S.

Will see hwo it goes :)

Check the anus of the fish to see if its inflamed or enlarged, also what does it look like when the fish goes to the toilet/

Both of this look fine. The normal fish poop colour and also the anus seems normal and not red nor inflamed. Ever so strange. Jusy had another look over him and everything else seems fine and still no pine cone-ing to suggest dropsy. Guess the next few days will go far into seeing if the oto is ill or not.

Also thanks for all the help so far guys. Great as usual.

That good then can rule internal parasites out.
Try some shelled peas on the fish.
