Oto Catfish

Oto's are a schooling fish, even if they seem to be "ignoring" each other, they feel safer in groups. If you have the space and availability, consider getting a couple more. :good:

Agreed. If you want them to feel secure and happy in as natural a setting as possible, then schooling fish have to be kept in schools. Fish school as a security thing. Many eyes are better than one in the wild and that type of thing. If they are on their own or just a pair then they will constantly feel threatened by the risk of predators as they have no one else looking out for them.

i think it also depends on the size and aggresiveness of the other fish in the tank
if the other fish are small and peaceful they wont be as scared and you will be able to get by just fine with only 2
however more is better
from my experience they dont really produce a lot of waste so having 5-7 wont be much of a problem
