I currenly have 2 Firemouths and 3 UD catfish and they have been getting along fine sometimes my catfish scare the firemouths by suprising them because they were hiding underneath a plant lol. I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions on other fish that would work well. I have a 55 gallon.

you could get more new world cichlids
angels maybe, or rams

perhaps tetras would fill in the mid-level of the tank. Black Skirt tetras look awesome. Some kind of barb would be cool too, a school of 10 or 15

You could also get a red-tailed black shark or rainbow shark

just my ideas and fish i peronnally like :)

So 10 barbs such as tiger barbs would be alright? I wanted to get a rainbow shark but I've heard they get more violent as they age. So any larger tetras, barbs and those sharks would be alright?

Dont ruine what you have going with babrs, stick with cichlids, get a severum or somthing

I have plants though, don't they eat a lot of plants? I'd like to get one because I've heard they are really cool. I could always put my plants in my 10 gallon and have a cool looking 10 gallon planted lol.

Good point, I have read that they will consume all of the plants in the tank, too.

I was at the lfs today at lunch and I saw these very pretty 2-3 inch bright yellow fish in the tank next to the firemouths. The tank was labeled South American - but I cannot remember the name of the fish.

Do you know what those might be?

Just going to ask a couple things. What would work well with 2 Firemouths, a Severum? Any bottom dwellers that would work? Only thing I can seem to find ifsa pleco at the store but it doesn't say what kind so I've always assummed it was a common pleco which is why I've avoided them.
