someone (synirr i think) once posted that her oscar enjoys playing with a fishing line bouy. perhaps your oscar would enjoy that for a new toy.

Oscars do enjoy playthings and the fact that my oscar is well entertained seems to help keep aggression down in my tank as well... Now mine has a small rubber ducky that he enjoys biting and jumping on top of

I'll check at the fish store for a toy, although my glass top is 'just' above the water level so I'm not sure something floating would work so well.

Last week I put a thermometer in the tank and he immediately had to go for it, it took about 10 minutes of me chasing him away before he let it be.
