can anyone give me some info on oscars i have 2 at home and was woundering can you tell sexes and how do you know if a pair has formed?
and how long can they live for n how big they can get?

thanks

As far as I know you can't sex oscars unless they are dissected which would involved killing it. I too had oscar's and that is what I was informed. I was told to buy several and they pair up by themselves. They get huge 14in or more. Mine get so big i donated them to the local zoo. You have to have a big tank for them. How long they live i have no idea, mine were two y/o when I donated them. But I have Cousin who has had his for six years already. I hope I was some what helpful.

Oscars grow to a meaty, messy, 10-14". They should live at least 10 years and up to 20. You can tell if they are a pair by the way they behave, so keep a close eye on them. They may be aggressive toward each other as a pair, but if they are not then the dominent one will eventually begin to thrash the other. A pair needs an aquarium of at least 100 gallons.
