Hey,

Had my tiger oscar for 3 weeks tomorrow and already looks to have easily put an inch on and thickened up nicely!

Ive been feeding hikari gold pellets, squid and prawn and have read to get some greens in their diet.

I tried peas yesterday and he ate them fine, but this morning I noticed pea bits all in the gravel,I didnt see him spit them out so im unsure whether he threw them up?

How important is it for them to eat greens and should I just keep trying?

Cheers for any advice.

It does aid in their digestion, I would imagine the pieces you are seeing are those that came out of his gills as he ate, lets face it they are messy eaters, most that goes in their mouths, comes out the sides

Lol agreed with Minx, try feeding some chunks of courgette

If the Oscar is still quite young you can also feed a frozen food called community diet (or similar) which contains a varied mix of meat based and veg based foods or even vegetarian diet

The longterm feeding of veg also helps to prevent diseases such as HITH

Thing is I watched him eat them as I always handfeed now and I didnt notice any coming out the gills at the time, especially not the size that the pieces are in the gravel.

I must of just missed them I guess, or he spat them out after I wasnt watching.

Are you sure it isnt green colour poopy

I always know what my O has eaten by the colour of his poo

It is possible he spat them out after you walked away too.

lol nah Ive already noticed the coloured poo!haha

possibly I guess but I fed them around 7 in the evening and I always come back and look at the tank during the evening and didnt notice any until this morning :S

must of missed it I guess!
