Hey everyone,

This is probably a ridiculous question, but lately I've been hearing so many different things about the disposition of Oscars that I thought I'd just ask.

I have talked to people that have Oscars in with gouramis, eels, bala's, loaches, etc. One guy that I talked to yesterday says that he has kissing and moonlight gouramis that have been living with his two oscars for 4 years.

I was wondering if an Oscar would be suitable for my tank? I had never considered them to be suitable. I have a very large, robust 6 inch Blood Parrot Cichlid who is NOT shy about who enters his tank, and follows my arm around biting me when I am moving things. Every newcomer to the tank, he chases and puts through its laps before it can become a member. I also have a Pleco, 3 large Rainbows (turqoise, bosemani, unknown), A large synodontis euruptus, 2 red eye tetras (they can be moved), and a moonlight gourami. The gourami and tetras have an alternative tank they could be put in. My tank that I'm considering for the oscars is 75 gallons.

Am I crazy?

I wouldnt do it, I have 2 Oscars in a 125 Gallon and they are fine alone. I wouldnt risk it, Either it sounds as if your parrot is that agressive if you get a small oscar they might get killed or the large might fight back. Oscars are hard to keep with one another let alone any other fish. Also your oscar will try to eat anything in your tank that can fit into its mouth. I dont think its a good idea but thats just from my experience, people have different stories.

I love the look of Oscars, and was admiring the small ones at my lfs today, as i always do, but i would never get one, just because all of my fish in my 3 tanks are community and all get along fine, and i wouldnt want this disrupted, as well as i dont really have a tank big enough to house an Oscar once its big, as my biggest tank is 180l, ah well, i can still admire at the Lfs ;)

I'm afrid ur 75g isn't going to be enought for the monster(oscar) to growth. It really need atleast 125g to reach its adult size. As for tank mate bloodpirate seem can hold its spot even in an arowana tank. I think its should be fine to keep with oscar if tank is big enought. But as u might know some oscar r very agreesive so its matter effect up to you if you want to try put a tank divider in and see how the oscar act toward the BP.

Good luck
Jack

a bare bones 75 would be the absolute minimum for an oscar. already having a "community" set up already going, I wouldn't suggest getting an oscar.

I thought the 55G was?
Thats what I've heard most?
I know a few people who have full grown oscers in 55gs..

It is. It's like how people say 1 gallon is good for a betta, but most people think 2.5 gallons or larger is better. Some will tell you that 2.5 gallon is the absolute minimum since it is much better for the fish, but it can technically be done in smaller.
