i bought a 10" oscar about a month ago.
and in that time its size has decreased ALOT.
its bout 7" now... whats going on? he shrinks nearly everyday.
He looks completely normal and is very lively.
hes in my 220L atm, which will be moved into a 400L by the end of this month.

Also is it normal for them to spit out half their food?

Umm are you sure he is shrinking? Im not positive about this, but just using common sense i would say that is impossible.

Yes i have seen them spit out food but its ussually something they dont like, try another type of food and see what happpens.

Its not just me who says it.
All my mates come round and say "that big fish is getting smaller"
nearly every single person that came with me to get it says its smaller.
I dont know what is going on with him.

he is alot skinnier since i got him, simply cos he wont eat anything i give him.
I gave him shrimp, bloodworm and oscar pallets. He likes the pallets the best, but still spews most of it up....
He seems fine, he just does really weird things.
I wouldnt come on here lying to people about him shrinking... i posted this to find out why, otherwise i would not have bothered.

Maybe he is clamping his fins, giving you the look that he has gotten smaller :/ This is pretty odd, but I'll try to help :)

An oscar that won't eat... now that's a first.

I remember someone mentioning something about soaking food in some substance that improves a fishes appetite, works especially well for cichlids. I can't remember what it is though :/

P.T.

I think your just used to his size, when people come over to look at my oscar they say how much he has grown, but to me he looks the same.

u mentioned that it hasn't been eating all this time... How about the water quality of the tank?
the ph, temp, etc. Is it suitable for an Oscar?
some of my flowerhorns refused to eat whenever the water quality is bad. as soon as I change the water. They start eating again.
Try changing water. good luck dude...Hope it will go well soon
