how exactly do you sex oscars at a young age...
I would simply buy a group and let them pair off, then return the rest, but all I have for fish is a walmart and they do not buy back, or even take back fish.....

Thus, I am wondering how to tell the males from the females at the juvenile stage and hopefully if I end up getting a male and female they will pair off... If not I could always take one to a fish shop in the next major city(4 hours away) next time I'm headed there.....

Can anyone help me out here!!?

Thanks A lot!

i think its hard to tell the sexes apart even when full grown. and oscars can kill their mate so if you are really serious i would get at least four juveniles and let them sort it out

I've ogt a breeding pair on one of my work tanks and their breeding every 2 weeks if i'm lucky, but as yet i still do not now the male and female, and the only time u can truly tell is from the ovepositer (not sure of spelling) or u see the egg's being layed.

So with young it's impossible and a small group will be needed.

Have fun

Thanks a lot everyone, thats what I thought already but I was hoping someone on here would have a better idea.....

I'll probably just get a single oscar for now anyway and we will see what happens in the future as far as pairs goes....

There is no way of sexing Oscar unless you see it lay eggs you can't tell the differance.. If you want a mating pair look on line at some dealers RAPPS is a good one they sell mating pairs

I have a mating pair of 12" oscars for sale at a lfs for $250 AUD. Thing is they seem like normal tankm ates as I visit there quite often. Could be a scam.

But the only way to get a good pair would be to buy 4-6 juvinile oscars and place them in a large (200 Gallon) tank and wait a year.

If I had the resources to get a tank that size and those oscars I would in a second.... hahahaha... I think if I end up getting any set up for oscars soon, I'll get just the one then.... does anyone have any preferences as to which types of oscars to keep?

like the Albino Red (real color red not the organe looking they call red)..
